What happens to brass if I don't apply a finish ?

The short answer is "brass tarnishes". Since brass is a general term for many different copper alloys, how quickly a brass will tarnish or "add patina" depends on a combination of the specific alloy and the atmospheric conditions in which it is stored. The two concentric circle findings pictured above made a different times from the same brass alloy give a very good example of different tarnishing stages.
