Botanical Name: Rosa

Message: Love

The rose represents love, hope, magic, passion, the mystery of life, and
its history is woven in love and war, devotion and murder. As a symbol, the rose is used
in art, literature and heraldry.

The botanical name, rosa, is Latin for red, but roses with a color language all their own, are now grown in a variety of colors. Some examples are: Red roses = I love you, Pink roses = Elegance, grace, frivolity, Yellow roses = Friendship
Peach roses = desire, excitement
,
White roses = innocence, secrecy

The rose is universally accepted as a symbol of love, from the pagan image,
to being a symbol of the blood of Christ and the crown of thorns.

The Chinese brought Tea Roses to Europe in the 18th century.
The theory is that they are named tea roses because they were shipped in the same boxes as the tea.

Josephine, the wife of Napoleon, was known for always carrying a rose,
and history tells us that she was determined to amass the greatest collection of roses in the world.
