Pet Jewelry-Has Jewelry Gone to the Dogs?

TOUCHSTONE
Volume 4, number 7
October 2004

Yes, it has, in the brand new "G.W. Little" catalog, a 32 page designer fashion and accessories guide for owners of dogs weighing 25 pounds or less. (The name of the company is shorthand for "Great World of Little Dogs.")

Quoted in the September 6 issue of DM News, the president of the catalog firm, John Grieco, says, "The general public has accepted dressing little dogs and taking care of them like children." He cites celebrities such as Paris Hilton and her little dog "Tinkerbelle" along with Reese Witherspoon whose "Legally Blonde" character had a small dog.

So, what are folks spending on their diminutive pooches? The catalog includes a pearl-and-white-gold necklace for $1,995, scarves for $22 each, and shea butter conditioning shampoo for $15. Woof woof!

The next thing you know some one will come up with pet bumper stickers !
